Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I source the bones I use?

Currently, all of the bones I use for my pieces are sourced from different areas. There is no one person or place I source them from. Sometimes people around the USA, who live in rural areas, find bones, clean them and sell them. This includes bones from animals that died naturally, bone dumps and road kill. They may also come from government regulated population control, farms or ethical hunting.

The definition of ethical hunting is subjective. It can have different definitions depending on the person, the state, and the laws in place. In my definition, this includes hunting for food (zero waste), protecting animals from predators, or any other reason that encourages natural conservation and does not promote the hunting of animals for a trophy or solely to meet a demand of selling bones or fur. Because of this, I will not guarantee that I will have a specific bone and will be able to recreate past jewelry pieces.

Once in a while, I receive bones from other creators (as trades or gifts) and use them in my work.

Do you offer custom jewelry?

At this time I do not accept custom orders.

Do I ship internationally?

Yes! I only ship within the United States, Canada, Europe and Australia. This is due to laws being in place about shipping animal remains. For example, some countries require permits to enter any animal remains.

Also, to be honest the tax situation is really confusing too.

If you would really like a jewelry piece and do not live in the countries listed above, please email me at contact@strangeadornments.com with your country and what you would like so I can see if I'm able to send something over to you. I can also create a custom necklace without bones for you.

Care Instructions for all jewelry

How to care for your pieces:

Like all jewelry, my pieces can be fragile and must be properly taken care of for maximum lifespan. Please do your best to follow the instructions.

- Do not submerge under water or any liquid. Please remove before swimming or showering. If wet, dry immediately. Please note that soaking bones in water can affect its structural integrity, aka it can cause them to decompose. Avoid humid areas for prolonged periods of time.

- Do not pull on jewelry. If mishandled, my pieces can come apart or break.

- Keep away from prolonged direct sunlight, it may cause the jewelry to age faster.

- keep away from children and animals, it may become a dangerous choking hazard.

-Do not chew or put jewelry in your mouth

My piece broke, what should I do?

I offer free repairs depending on the jewelry piece. I do not replace jewelry as I do not have the same bones in stock often. Please make sure you are following care instructions to expand the life of your piece.

If your piece broke, please email contact@strangeadornments.com ASAP so I can help you! Generally if you are in the USA, I send prepaid shipping labels to make shipping quick and easy at no cost to you.

Do I offer exchanges or returns?

Most of my pieces are one of a kind and I create in small batches, so I cannot accept exchanges. I can do returns, but only if the piece is in great condition.

Please be aware that I am only one person and this is my livelyhood. If I receive a returned piece and its in bad shape, I cannot fix it or resell it.

My package says delivered, but I don't have it?

When this happens, please allow an extra week as USPS may sometimes mark the package delivered when it wasn't. If it's been a week, send an email to contact@strangeadornments.com and I will help you with the next steps!

All orders include insurance.
